LEAK DETECTION & MAPPING

Protect Water Resources and Reduce Water Loss

According to the Department of Water resources, approximately 10 percent of treated drinking water in California escapes through leaks between the treatment plant and customers. This represents about 200 billion gallons of water, or enough for approximately 1.5 million households. Furthermore, the EPA estimates that average water loss in systems can be even higher, at 16 percent. The good news is that up to 75 percent of this lost water can be recovered.

Much of the drinking water infrastructure in the U.S. has been in service for decades and can be a significant source of water loss through leaks from transmission and distribution mains, leakage and overflows from water system’s storage tanks, and leakage from service connections up to and including the meter. Most water utilities only react to leaks after they come to the surface. One of the most effective strategies to reduce water consumption is to institute a water loss prevention program. For small Disadvantaged Communities with limited water resources and staff, it is even more critical to identify and fix water leaks as soon as possible.

Our leak detection team utilizes state-of-the-art equipment including pipe locators, sounds loggers, hydrophones, and correlators, in addition to our certified and experienced team of locators and water audit efficiency specialists. We also offer training for water system staff so you can detect leaks on your own.
